Frequently Asked Questions
What are the working hours for these assignments?
Shifts are Monday through Saturday. The first shift begins around 8 a.m. The second shift begins around 3 p.m.
Can I take time off during the period I am serving?
No, for this opportunity, you will need to commit to serving each day, with shifts Monday through Saturday.
Can my spouse/friend/family member also apply?
This is a special opportunity for Connect Volunteers. That said, we are still hiring members of the public for the full season (however, their expenses will not be paid). If you know of someone interested in working at the Processing Center, you can direct them to https://www.samaritanspurse.org/our-ministry/processing-center-seasonal-employment for more information and to apply through the public process (which will open closer to the start of processing season).
Are these paid positions?
No, these are all volunteer positions.
What expenses will be covered?
Operation Christmas Child will arrange and pay for a hotel room for your service dates, and a meal during your shift.
May I stay with a friend or family member instead of staying in the booked hotel?
Yes! Feel free to stay with a friend or family member in the area if you prefer that to staying in a hotel.
Do I need to make my own travel arrangements to and from the Processing Center?
Yes, you will need to make your own travel arrangements. Operation Christmas Child will book your hotel room.
When do I need to arrive on site?
Please arrange to arrive on the Sunday of your assignment to check into your lodging. You will then arrive to the Processing Center on Monday (specific time TBA), where a member of our Processing Center Management team will meet you to provide orientation and training for your position.
How can I prepare/What do I need to bring with me to the Processing Center?
First and most importantly, continue praying for the processing season! In addition, you should consider that the temperature within the warehouse will vary, so plan to layer if needed. You will be provided with a t-shirt that will need to be worn visibly during your shift (not under a jacket). We also recommend you bring comfortable shoes and prepare to remain flexible throughout the process. Those of you who have served or volunteered in a Processing Center before know that it is a fast-paced and ever-changing environment. We are excited to serve alongside you!
Can I extend my trip?
You are welcome to plan your travel however you like, however, Operation Christmas Child can only cover your hotel for the days you are serving. Please note that you are committing to be available to serve from Monday through Saturday and we cannot accommodate time off during that period.
Can I still volunteer in the Processing Center if I am serving in one of these roles?
Yes, when you are not serving during your shift, you are welcome to volunteer in the Processing Center.
I have more questions. Who can I contact?
If you have additional questions that are not covered in the FAQ, contact occpcservice@samaritan.org.
